We use search methods combining Internet resources with local resources to provide low-cost high-speed access to patent image data. We obtain wholesale patent images from a variety of Internet and non-Internet sources so that we can peruse patents in-house at a rate up to about one patent page per second.

We use only secure U.S. Government Patent Office search engines to identify relevant collections based on Classification Subclasses and/or key terms. Patent image collections are then purchased from commercial wholesalers or downloaded in real-time to our Darnestown Satellite Dish (and/or downloaded in bulk during off-peak hours). The patent collections for a particular search (e.g. 600 patents) are stored temporarily on local hard drives for instant access, careful scrutiny and lengthy, off-line analysis. Most collections are discarded following a search. Although our specialty is patent searching and claim analysis, our in-house archives are growing and tend to include items which are missing from other systems.

We enjoy access to Dialog TM
files and further, we have access to non-INTERNET resources including current and former Patent Examiners together with the examiner's personal collection of U.S. and foreign patent literature, Patent Office computers, The Library of Congress, NASA, NIST & NIH, for example.Our Darnestown facility is located minutes from the above institutions and in close proximity to the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University & George Washington University libraries -- among many others. We are 8 miles from our ISP: Hughes Network Systems, their Global Headquarters and the Satellite Uplink supplying our Darnestown Dish with patent image data.
